Unlawful Pitch Floodlighting Challenge

Unlawful pitch floodlighting temporary stop notice at Viney Hill Sports and Social Club

We acted for a local resident adjacent to the sports club. Whilst it had always had some lighting, lights on 8 taller posts with high intensity LED clusters were installed in August 2025. They were located on the perimeter of the field close to our client’s property. No planning permission was applied for. Accordingly, the lights were erected in breach of planning. Our client had no issue with the Club’s use in general terms or matches being played, but the increased height and intensity impacted his garden and rear of house, and also bat activity. The relevant ILP guidance on lighting had not been complied with. Initially refusing to take action, the Council finally served a temporary stop notice following our intervention.
