As the leading environmental law firm, our team is driven to assist those who seek to make a positive impact. We see it as a privilege that our clients provide the energy and willingness that allows this to be our primary focus at work.

However, it is important to ensure that our working environment reflects the work we are instructed to do. Our social responsibility policy centres across the following four areas:

Access to Justice

Access to justice in environmental matters should not be prohibitively expensive. That is the leading tenet in the UN Aarhus Convention, as signed by the UK government, and it has been a prime motivation of the firm that this should be followed. We have taken many cases in the Courts to ensure that this principle is practically available for those that seek to protect their environment, sometimes even taking on costs exposure ourselves to ensure the principles can be defended.

Community

Many of our clients are community groups and charities that have come together and have sought our assistance in a legal aspect of their campaign. In addition to this support, Richard Buxton Solicitors actively encourages those who wish to carry out wider pro bono or charitable work, with solicitors and paralegals entitled up to 2 days of additional paid leave per year to help in the community.

Our team are also active as supporters and trustees of charities in their personal capacity, many with an environmental focus.

Environment

In the cases we bring, Richard Buxton Solicitors is committed to its aim to have a positive impact on the environment. This commitment is also in the way we work. Our initiatives include:

  • We encourage the use of public transport to travel to work. The majority of our team cycle or walk to the office, as promoted by the firm’s membership of the bike to work scheme.
  • Although mainly working electronically, when documents need to be printed it is on 100% recycled paper; and
  • Our preference is to meet by video conference where possible, reducing the need to travel.

Equality & Diversity

The environment we live in impacts us all, and therefore those that seek to protect it should reflect those that are impacted by it. As a modern firm we are committed to creating a working environment that values equality, diversity and inclusion.
