We are currently recruiting for an accountant (Application deadline: 23 July 2021)

Accountant (flexible working available); Salary: competitive

Richard Buxton Solicitors specialises in environmental, planning and public law. We are a small firm with a big reputation in this area – we are based in Cambridge but work nationally, with a reputation for taking on and winning ‘David & Goliath’ cases to protect the environment.

We are looking for an accountant with experience of working in a small organisation (ideally a law firm). The accountant would be responsible for managing the day to day financial and accountancy transactions using the firm’s casework and accountancy software programme, and where appropriate, liaising with other (unqualified) members of staff. The accountant would also be responsible for the preparation and presentation of monthly management accounts. Previous experience of dealing with client money to ensure compliance with the Solicitor Account Rules is required. Accounting experience in a law firm is desirable.

We are anticipating that the position will be part time, with sufficient hours to ensure that the accountancy needs of the firm can be reliably met. The precise number of hours and the distribution of these over the working week will be subject to discussion and agreement. We would also consider applicants looking for a full time position.

We are prepared to consider all kinds of candidates for this position – both locally based and from further afield, since the pandemic has fostered a new way of working with several of our lawyers working mostly from home. We have a hub office in central Cambridge, an easy walk from the central station, and whilst we have a preference for someone who would be willing to attend the office - at least occasionally – we are open to applications from those who live further afield for whom this would not be possible. Even for those locally based, we do not expect employees to regularly attend the office if they find they can work more effectively from home.

To apply, please send a cv and covering letter explaining your interest in the position by email, with subject line “Accountant Application (ADM2/15)” to Paul Wyard at pwyard (at)
