R (CPRE Kent) v Dover District Council

The Court of Appeal found in favour of our clients, CPRE Kent, in a judgment which emphasised the duty of public authorities to give reasons when making decisions. Lord Justice Laws, giving the lead judgment, stated that "the scale of the development was unprecedented in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty", being for almost 600 residential dwellings and associated development in an area highly protected for its historic and biodiversity interests. The defendant Council has applied for permission to appeal to the Surpreme Court.
